Our Shunpike Partnership

Shunpike is the 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that fuels innovation in the arts by building productive partnerships, cultivating leadership and providing direct services to arts groups of all kinds. Through Shunpike sponsorship, Tacoma Youth Theatre can receive grants and tax-deductible donations.  Our partnership will allow us to grow as an organization as we move toward our own non-profit status. You can learn more about Shunpike by

We now have - through Shunpike -  a tax-deductible fund to accept grants and donations.  DONATE HERE  Our plan is to develop this fund quickly so we can underwrite the costs associated with our mission.  As Tacoma Youth Theatre grows, the overall costs will begin to decrease.  Here is the current per-child breakdown of the costs associated with producing a play at Tacoma Youth Theatre:

Instructor One     $83.33
Instructor Two     $41.67
Insurance            $25.00
rent                    $41.67
lights                  $16.67
props                  $10.00
costumes             $25.00
office supplies        $8.33
phone                   $3.33
internet                 $6.67
cleaning supplies     $0.83
drinking water         $0.83
printing                $12.50
marketing             $25.00

Total Tuition Cost        $300.83

We know that times are hard and money is tight for everyone.  Because Tacoma Youth Theatre cannot provide scholarships at this time, we are temporarily moving forward with a pay-what-you-can tuition model.  Every young artist cast in an audition-based program (not open enrollment) will pay either the full tuition of $300 or select a lesser payment their family can afford.  Our only requirement is that everyone pay something.  You know the value of Tacoma Youth Theatre's mission.  We are now asking everyone to support that mission.

Anne of Green Gables
We have adapted L.M. Montgomery's classic tale for the Tacoma Youth Theatre stage and we are excited to facilitate a great theatrical experience for our final performance at the First Congregational Church School.  Auditions will be held on Saturday, November 3rd at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational Church School.  REGISTER NOWRehearsals will be Tuesday through Friday from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM starting on Tuesday, November 6th.  Performances will be Friday, November 23rd at 7:00 PM, Saturday, November 24th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, November 25th at 2:00 PM.  We are happy to work with student schedules during the first two weeks of rehearsal but require full attendance for the final week of rehearsals.

All young actors, ages 5-18, are invited to join Tacoma Youth Theatre for these open auditions.  Pay What You Can tuition will be due on the first day of rehearsal.

Auditions are open to ALL, are a nurturing, low-pressure experience and require no preparation.  For more information or if you have any questions please contact Maggie Knott at 253-677-0531 or send her an email.

One last show at the First Congregational Church School

First Congregational Church
As many of you know, the First Congregational Church of Tacoma has sold their property to Mars Hill Church.  The new owners plan on making extensive renovations to the property requiring us to permanently vacate our current theatre space.  Our friends at the First Congregational Church have extended our current lease through the end of November, making one last production possible - ANNE OF GREEN GABLES.  We are now in the process of raising some capital and looking for a new location. Tacoma Youth Theatre has been accepted into the Tacoma Spaceworks program - however we have to wait for an appropriate sized space to become available.

Can you help us find a permanent new home?  Please contact Scott Campbell if you have any leads at 253-677-0531.

We thank the First Congregational Church of Tacoma for their wonderful support for children and theatre.
